Police are hunting for a conman who tricked a vulnerable 92-year-old man out of more than £10,000 by claiming he worked for ‘Barclays Fraud Squad’.
The fraudster called the elderly man and convinced him he worked in the bank’s fraud prevention department, before arranging to meet him in the St John’s Wood area of Westminster, London.
The pensioner agreed to the meeting and met the conman twice just weeks before Christmas, where he handed over around £10,000 to the man.
Detective Constable James Kapp, of Westminster CID, said: ‘The victim soon realised that he had been the victim of a fraud, but by then it was too late.’
CCTV footage released by the Metropolitan Police shows a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident, which took place on December 5 and 6 in Westminster, London.
He is described by the victim as being of Middle Eastern appearance and in his late twenties….
